Protein & Exercise

When exercising, it is best to take protein close to the time you exercise. A study published in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition compared protein dosages. The study found that consuming a large dose (25g) of whey protein immediately after exercise increased muscle protein synthesis more than when periodic smaller doses (25 g, but divided into 10 daily doses) of protein were consumed.

The researchers concludes that muscle metabolism after exercise can be manipulated by the diet. In terms of most beneficial timing of protein intake, this study concluded that immediate post-exercise consumption appears to be the best.
