5 Ways to Overcome Fear

Thursday, December 06, 2012

A common obstacle for many network marketers is the ability to overcome fear. Fear of failure, fear of rejection, fear of the unknown, fear of contacting -- whatever the fear stems from, it's something that the average person will face in his or her path to financial freedom.

As you build your Synergy business, try and incorporate these five ways to overcome fear in your life as you move toward your financial objectives.

1. ACKNOWLEDGE FEAR IS REAL

The key to overcoming fear isn't to get rid of it. Fear is a natural response that happens to everyone in one way or another. Fear is real and how you handle it will determine your ability to overcome it.

No one likes to fail, but it's essential to understand that what separates champions from losers is how they handle failure when it does happen. Acknowledge your fear, face it head on, and if you fail -- you learn, get back up, and try again.

2. THINK LIKE A TEXAN

For those living in Texas, you'll like this one. For those outside the Lone Star state, pay attention, we promise this is relevant.

Robert Kiyosaki shared this experience he had with his rich dad:

"I like Texans," my rich dad said. "In Texas, everything is bigger. When Texans win, they win big. And when they lose, it's spectacular."

"Texans like losing?" I asked.

"That's not what I'm saying," said rich dad. "Nobody likes losing. Show me a happy loser and I'll show you a loser in life. Rather, I'm talking about the Texan's attitude toward risk, reward, and failure. They live big. They're proud when they win, and they brag when they lose.

Robert Kiyosaki then goes on to talk about the lesson of the Alamo as an example of the Texans attitude. "The Alamo is a story of brave people who chose to fight, even when there wasn't any hope of winning. They chose to die instead of surrendering...and they got their butts kicked. But how did Texans handle this? They said, "Remember the Alamo!" They took a loss and made it a win."

"The Texans took a failure and turned it into inspiration...and a tourist destination that makes millions," said rich dad.

3. LEARN FROM FAILURE

You don't succeed in life without having failed at it first. The key to success isn't to not fail, rather it's to learn from your failures.

Each time you fail, you will be faced with two decisions. You can learn from your mistakes and let that inspire you, or you can not get back up and let it defeat you. For winners, losing serves as an inspiration. For losers, losing defeats them. It's your choice.

4. PLAY TO WIN

There's a big difference between hating to lose and being afraid to lose. Former NFL quarterback, Fran Tarkenton, said, "Winning means being unafraid to lose."

People who are afraid to lose seldom take the field. And when they do, they play to not lose rather than to win. Unfortunately, with this attitude, they rarely win.

If you want success, play to win.

5. BE FOCUSED

If you were to look at those who have been successful in life, you will notice a common theme. Number one, they have failed numerous times in their lifetime before reaching success and number two, they are focused in what they do. These people don't try their hand at multiple things, they stay in one spot.

Thomas Edison, Bill Gates, Steve Jobs, Michael Jordan - what do these people have in common? They were all focused on their end goal. Did they ever fail? Absolutely! Did they ever quit? Absolutely not.

Whatever your goals may be, whatever course you choose to take - follow it until you reach your destination. Overcome your fear, know that obstacles will come and when they do, learn from them and know that tomorrow you will have an advantage from the lessons learned today.
